Sunday Summary - Running, Reading and a Bit of Meditation
50 kilometre weeks and double runs.
Running, Reading and a Bit of Meditation
I’ve really upped my running this week, which has swallowed a lot of my time and energy. As a way to keep a bit more balance in my life, I’m aiming to sit quietly somewhere for at least 20 minutes each day, and also to sit and read for around the same amount of time.
I’m not entirely sure this is balancing my life any better. Everything seems a bit of a squeeze trying to get things in, but I hope that as I build a routine around this project, everything will get a little less hectic… we shall see.
Training Summary
This week I managed to hit a rolling average of 50 km per week. It’s been a bit of a push to get my body there in a somewhat sustainable manner – given that my rolling average was 0 km per week only six weeks ago!
I’m now into a routine of training twice a day - one easy run, and then one other thing. That other thing has mostly been strength training or yoga, but this week I also did my first double run since returning to training. They were only two short runs, 6.5 and 7.5 km, but it was good to start adding in that routine of running twice a day.
Once I am running in Japan, I expect I’ll often split the daily distance into more than one run, with a break for tea and snacks between runs.
The Week Ahead…
More training, but not quite the same jump in running next week. I’ll be aiming for a nice 10% increase, so I will be running around 55-56 kilometres over the course of the week. The main areas of training that I need to improve on are the quality and structure of my strength training and doing more yoga.
On the blog, I’m hoping to write my first running book review. Right now I’m reading What I Talk About When I Talk About Running by Haruki Murakami. (Spoiler Alert: I’m quite enjoying the book so far.)
In Case You Missed It…
I wrote about my 75-day challenge to do two workouts, a bit of reading and some meditation each day. And I also discussed why I’m switching my running approach from doing very little running, to taking on some very high mileage.
And in case you don’t subscribe to YouTube yet… Welcome to the Apocalypse
Thank you for reading and for your support.
Take it easy,
