Sunday Summary - Back in Hanoi
Running in Hanoi and the reunification day holidays
Back in Hanoi
So I’m back in Hanoi after my week in Chiang Mai. I purposefully came back to see what was going on for Reunification Day, marking 50 years since the end of the Vietnam War (or the American War, as it’s known here). While there were seemingly plenty of celebrations down in HCMC, there weren’t so many here in Hanoi.
I went out to Hoan Kiem Lake (check out the video below for an idea of what it usually looks like), and it was much busier than usual. Plenty of people were wearing Vietnam t-shirts and enjoying their day off, and there were flags everywhere, but there was a distinct lack of organised celebration. It was nice to hang around the Old Quarter, and I enjoyed the day off, but it all felt very different from the war commemorations back in the UK.

Training Summary
It wasn’t a bad week of training this week, but not stellar either. Slow and steady. I didn’t quite manage to run all the miles I wanted, but at one point my rolling 7-day average was up to 45km, which was above target. Of course, last Sunday’s half marathon around Chiang Mai dropped off the list today, so I’m down to only 29km. But on the plus side, it feels like I’m getting back into a routine.
The Week Ahead…
There should be a video appearing around Thursday time on the Apocalypse 50 ultramarathon race I did last year. So check that out.
Training is more of the same - keep on running, but I’d like to start adding a bit more yoga in there. I’m rubbish at yoga, so I’ll report back next week with how that goes!
In Case You Missed It…
Here’s the video showing what it’s like to run through the traffic in Hanoi
Anyway, this is out a little earlier than usual, so I’m off for a well earned beer.
Thank you for reading and for your support.
Take it easy,
Phill
