🇯🇵 Weekly Summary
It’s been a tough week. On Wednesday, we had to pack everything from our place and move it to my sister’s new house (which she moved into at the weekend!). Next, we had to sort out all our gear, pack it and get a 02.00 flight to Fukuoka, followed by a 14.00 flight to New Chitose Airport. An hour on the train would take us to our hotel by just after 21.00. We’d get a day off to do last-minute shopping (sleeping bags, camping mattresses and bear spray!) before jumping on a 07.30 train the next day to get to Wakkanai.
Just getting to the start line was a challenge, especially as I woke up with food poisoning on the Wednesday, and spend the entire check-in and security process for the first flight rushing to and from the loo. Saturday saw some improvement, and today I’m feeling a little better… well enough to run at least.
And that’s it. We’ve just had our first day. We started late, catching the 13.30 to Cape Soya, meaning it was around 4pm when we actually got moving. It was a great afternoon and evening. The first 1% of the journey done, 36 kilometres in 5 hours, while meeting some lovely people and having a fantastic time. We’re hoping to make a video out of it that people will enjoy, but filming has taken a back seat this week.
Unfortunately, Joy has accidentally deleted a chunk of the footage. She’s devastated, and I’m desperately trying to recover it, so it’s not going to be an early night for me. Fingers crossed. 🤞
☀️ Photo from the Road

This little critter came incredibly close to Joy and I, and hung around for a good twenty minutes. It definitely delayed our running, but it was worth the wait.
🗓️ This Week I Have Mostly Been…
🎵 Listening to: Believe Me I Can Fly - Joey Yung - It’s the song that the airline played on repeat before we left Hanoi.
📺 In Case You Missed It…
The stories I post through the day on Instagram will be kept in an ever growing highlights section in case you miss them.
🚀 Next Up
The first proper week of running, our first night camping in Japan, and getting our packing and sorting things out a lot smoother. We also need to streamline how we get things organised for social media, because I’ve been rubbish at that this week.
🏁 Finish Line
New videos should start appearing on YouTube and Instagram more regularly, so please subscribe/follow, if you don’t already.
